Solar Charge Controllers

Solar Charge Controllers are required to convert the DC voltage from the Solar Panels into a usable voltage to charge the batteries.  Charge controllers ensure the batteries are not overcharged and are charged in a balanced way to look after them ensuring a long life.  There are two types of charge controllers, PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) & MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking).

PWM Charge Controllers are cheaper basic controllers that will maintain your batteries to a good standard but less efficient than MPPT Controllers.

MPPT Controllers are more sophisticated and efficient bringing a 20% increase in power delivery to the batteries.  MPPT Controllers allow for higher Solar Array voltages with their auto battery sensing and adjustment capabilities.
